Hello!
I intend to buy a MacBook Pro, but there are some windows SW that i need to use that macosx doesn´t run, like Adobe Audition. I wouldn´t really want to run Windows, but as there isn´t Audition for Mac yet... And i don´t want to use BootCamp so to not waste any room in the inHD nor have to always plug the exHD (i guess that using BootCamp with windows installed in an exHD there´s always the need to have it plugged when booting any of the systems, likewise Grub/linux).

So i was wondering: is there a way of installing windows (XP or later) in an exHD through FW800? And would it be easier than through USB (not having to desconnect the inHD)?

I also guess that via USB you´re unable to use any dongles in windows, am i right?

Thanks in advance!

I believe the only reason you need to take out the hd is to make sure you do not erase the wrong disk. You can do it with it installed but you need to make sure you choose the right one because when you run the windows installation disk and you go to the "choose a partition" section there is only a jumble of numbers. If you want to do it that way I would suggest running the installation disk and going to "choose the partition" section-make note of the hd's and then reboot with external connected and choose the hd that was not present before.

Still trying, I have modified almost every win iso (all SPs), tried installing on a windows pc then migrating the installation to OSX, tryied almost everything. If someone has a clue on what to try next, please enlighten us (i'm even willing to downgrade the firmware on my MBP if its possible).

Did NOT WORK for me on Mac Pro (2006) with either an 8G flash drive or an extarnal USB harddisk. And yes, bootcamp sux; should be possible to make any partition a windows partition, not just an unpartitioned internal mac boot volume.

Please, any ideas or suggestions on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

What if you have an old internal hard drive converted into an external hard drive, how can you make it boot the already installed Windows XP from there?
